Introduction to Research Peptides

Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They are distinguished from proteins by their shorter length, typically consisting of fewer than 50 amino acids. In biological systems, peptides act as highly specific signaling molecules, regulating physiological functions ranging from cellular repair and metabolic modulation to neurogenesis.

Reconstitution Protocol

Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides must be reconstituted with a sterile solvent—typically Bacteriostatic Water (BAC)—prior to research use. BAC contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and allows for multi-use vial drawing.

  • Ensure all surfaces and vial tops are swabbed with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Draw the precise amount of BAC into your syringe.
  • Slowly inject the BAC into the lyophilized vial, aiming for the glass wall rather than directly onto the powder to avoid structural degradation.
  • Gently swirl the vial. Do not shake.

Storage and Stability

Proper storage is critical to maintaining compound integrity:

  • Lyophilized (Unmixed): Store in the freezer (-20°C) for long-term stability up to 24 months. Store away from direct UV light.
  • Reconstituted (Mixed): Store immediately in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C). Most compounds remain stable for 3-4 weeks once reconstituted.
